Bantwal, May 28: The emergency meeting of council members here on Friday witnessed allegations and counter-allegations between members and caused differences between officials and elected representatives. The meeting presided over by president Mohammed Sharif decided to have a war room that will work effectively towards the containment of the virus.
Member Munish Ali asked the reason for the delayed meeting. Members Gangadhar, Siddiq Guddeyangadi and Janardhan Chandthimar said that the officials are not releasing any official information. Senior member A Govinda Prabhu asked how far the president is in contact with councillors. There were arguments over vaccinations between councillor Hariprasad and Siddiq leading to the intervention of other members.
Member Janardhan Chandthimar severely criticized the health inspector. Members A Govinda Prabhu, Munish Ali, Siddik Guddeyangadi, Zeenath Phiroz, Hariprasad and Gangadhar obtained details about Covid.
Bantwal tahsildar Rashmi S R said that the corona effect has not diminished and that the members should discuss future plans and precautionary measures.
Bantwal taluk health officer, Dr Deepa Prabhu explained the actions taken by the department to contain the spread of coronavirus and cleared doubts about vaccines. She said that the council should identify the containment zone and keep and monitor people who step out of their homes without any reason.
Chief executive, Lena Britto said that the council is starting a helpline to manage coronavirus related grievances.
Municipal council vice president, Jacinta D’ Souza, block nodal officer, Jnanesh, health inspector, Jayashankar and assistant infant welfare project officer, Sheelavati were present.
