Mangaluru, May 29: St Aloysius BEd College inaugurated the students’ council for the academic year 2021-22 through a digital platform. The programme began with a prayer song.
The chief guest, Moideen Badshah (former Syndicate member, social worker, alumni of 2009-10 batch), in his address mentioned that having a students’ council in an institute is an opportunity for the students to learn the skills of leadership and discharge their responsibilities in various fields. It develops democratic and socialistic values. Active students’ council members work with teachers and management to promote a better learning environment. It develops in them a stronger sense of membership and commitment to organizing activities for the betterment of the institute. He also invited the BEd trainees to develop a broad attitude to render services to the needy and to scale greater heights in their profession.
Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, St Aloysius College Institutions presided over the function. Leadership can teach students to take on multiple responsibilities. "They are also supposed to take certain risks so that they can be able to face challenges and solve them effectively,"he said. He commended the dedication of the staff members for connecting the students constantly online.
Dr Farita Viegas (principal) said, "Students have an important role to contribute to making their institute effective and in this regard their involvement in the operation is inseparable. A student council provides an opportunity for students to engage in planning activities with the staff, to create a sense of ownership of day-to-day College activities and improve academic standards. Students' councils are a representative structure through which students can undertake initiatives of benefit to the college and the wider community.
Sandhya (faculty) administered the oath to the following members of the students’ council: student presidents: Prathvi B and Elizabeth Sebastian; student vice-president: Calvin D’Silva; sports secretary: Yashaswi U; cultural secretary: Lorina D’Souza and methodology secretaries- Fr Roney Sebastian, Samuel K Liana, Pramod Kumar SJ, and Deola Helena Vas.
