Dammam: CFC Suralpady Team Clinches Apex Summer Cup- 2010

Dammam, Aug 21: CFC Suralpady team bagged the Apex Summer Cup – 2010 organized by the Apex Freight Management System, Al Khobar in aid of Ramadan Charity at Raakah grounds near Dhahran Exhibitions here, recently.

In all 16 teams participated from Dammam, Al Khobar and Jubail. CFC Suralpady team emerged the winners by defeating Unique Al Khobar by 48 runs in the finals. After winning the toss Unique Captain chose to field first. The CFC team’s innings began with the solid opening partnership of 28 runs between Imran and Shadab in two overs.

Shadab played magnificently and scored 33 in just 11 deliveries with a help of four sixes, he was equally supported by Imran who scored 18 in just five deliveries but thereafter they lost three quick wickets. Later Mutalib, one of the better strikers of the ball who smashed Unique bowlers all around the park scoring 22 in just 8 deliveries with the help two sixes and a boundary. In the end CFC Suralpady managed to score 98 /6 in the allotted 8 overs.

In reply the Unique team’s batsmen failed to chase the target. No batsman managed to score double figure accept Khaleel who scored 25 runs. The Unique team’s batsman were failed to face the fine bowling and fielding performances by CFC palyers and they were all out for 50 in 7 overs.

Javed Suralpady was a standout bowler claiming 4 wickets and was equally supported by Shadab, Imran and Muthalib who picked up 2 wickets each giving CFC Suralpady a comfortable 48 run victory.

Prior to the finals, in the first semi final match between CFC and Colts Sports Club, Colts put on 96/5 in the stipulated 8 overs. Ali scored 20 and Rifkhan 35. In reply, chasing a mammoth score of 96 CFC Suralpady lost their both reliable openers Imran and Shadab cheaply with just 12 on the board, it didn’t get any better when they lost the price wicket of Muthalib but man for the Crisis Afwan Karkala studied the ship he scored a breath taking 54 in just 21 deliveries with the help of 5 sixes and 1 boundary. CFC needed 14 in the last over but Afwan Karkala finished it in style hitting 2 sixes. It just took him four
deliveries to clinch the victory.

In the second semi final between NGC Jubail and Unique Al Khobar, NGC team won the toss and chose to bat. NGC scored 60/9 in 8 overs. NGC batsman struggled to score in front of some fine bowling by Unique NGC. In reply, the Unique were struggling till the entry of their star player Rifdhi who changed the course of the match by scoring 24 in the fifth over of Asif. Unique chased the score in just 5.5 overs.

Later, a prize distribution ceremony was held. Rafeeq, Mohideen of Apex, Mohammed Iqbal of Zamil, Ethisham of KCC, Shareef of Colts Cricketers, Gopal Shetty of CBC, Javed of Unique and Mannan of Cresent were the chief guests.

Muthalib of CFC Suralpady was declared the Man of the Series for his outstanding batting and bowling performances. Shadab was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant all round performance. Ali of Colts Sports Club was the Best Batsman and Shakib of Unique, the Best Bowler.

Gopal, Noorah, Javed Akther and Anwar Kanchi were the official umpires.

Mohideen and Iqbal distributed Trophy and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up award. The winners, CFC Suralpady donated 50% of the cash to the charity.

Mohamed Asif of Apex welcomed the gathering. Mohammed Asif proposed the vote of thanks.
