Panaji, Aug 24: Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) on Tuesday Auguest 24 alleged that entire police force including director general of police were responsible for the drug nexus cover up.

“Atala (Israeli drug peddler Yaniv Benaim) is missing as police were not willing to keep a tab on him. This proves that there is a nexus between drug peddlers and policemen,” BJP’s state unit spokesman Rajendra Arlekar said.

He said that lethargy by police in letting Atala go missing is a clear indication that there is an attempt to cover up by police and all the officers including DGP are responsible for it.

Atala, an important link in policemen-drug peddler nexus, has jumped the bail and is missing from the state.

Seven policemen were arrested after Atala’s former girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse uploaded video on social networking website which showed the drug peddler bragging of his links with the policemen.

Arlekar said that after Atala’s disappearance, the need to hand over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been confirmed.

“Police are busy covering up the issue. For time being let’s forget about politicians involved in the issue, there is urgent need to expose nexus between policemen and drug peddlers,” the spokesman said.

He said that CBI being an independent agency can bust the nexus.

BJP spokesman said that police have been dilly dallying on the matter right since the beginning. “Police should have recorded statement of Lucky Farmhouse (a crucial witness) by meeting her. It’s a mockery that police are waiting for Lucky to come and depose,” he said.

BJP, which had mounted pressure on the government for handing over the case to CBI, said that they will resort to all the possible democratic methods to get the probe done by the central agency.

Arlekar said that the home minister Ravi Naik had even misled the state legislative assembly by hiding the fact that Atala was missing.

“When Naik made the statement on nexus issue he did not mention about Atala’s disappearance. He kept the entire assembly in darkness,” the spokesman said.
