Kolkata, Aug 28 (IANS): Student groups of the Maoists and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Saturday threw eggs and tomatoes at Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia as they staged a demonstration protesting the central government's "utter failure" to contain price rise.
However, the projectiles missed the economist, who seemed unruffled by the protests.
The snap agitation that started as Ahluwalia was about to enter the Presidency College to participate in a national seminar took the securitymen by surprise.
The protesters waved black flags and shouted "Montek, go back", "Down Down, UPA" (United Progressive Alliance) as they scuffled with the security personnel.
Nobody has been arrested so far, the police said.
