Bengaluru, Jun 15: The issue of appointing a person facing serious allegations as the interim vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has reached the BJP high command. University professors have written a letter opposing appointment of Jaykar Shetty to the position.
State health minister Dr K Sudhakar, said that as long as he is the minister, tainted people cannot occupy the seat of the RGUHS vice chancellor. He said he has already discussed the matter with the chief minister.
Senior party leaders and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders have reportedly complained to the senior leaders of the party stating that RGUHS, which is a prestigious university in the country, has for the first time, got a private individual as interim vice chancellor. Jaykar Shetty, who has been chosen for the post, had been raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently. The leaders have warned that unless this appointment is cancelled the government will get a bad name and the party's image will be dented.
BJP sources are also discussing the issue of making the appointment without informing the health minister who is the pro chancellor of the university. They have demanded for the cancellation of the order.
For the first time in the 25 years history of the university, a person who worked in a private institution has been picked for the post, that too by overlooking the CBI raid on him. The earlier vice chancellors had upheld the dignity of the university and the previous governments had followed the traditions. So far no individual from private institutions was picked for this post. Jaykar faces two serious allegations. The professors of the university therefore are learnt to have urged the chief minister to cancel his appointment.
