Udupi, Jun 15: Retired Indian Army officer, social worker Col Ramachandra Rao (88) passed away on Monday June 14.
Ramachandra Rao had taken part in the 1962 war with China, the 1967 war with Pakistan, and the Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971. After his retirement, he worked with the Retired Soldiers Association, the Administrative Board of Poorna Prajna College, Sri Krishna Balanikethan, and several organizations.
He served the poor by starting Naveen Pejwar Trust. In 2017, he along with his wife Malathi Rao was awarded the Sevebushan Award given in memory of Yakshagana Kalaranga S Gopalakrishna. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter and relatives.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Yakshagana Kalaranga president M Ganghadar Rao, secretary Murali Kadekar condoled the death of the retired officer.
