Kaup, Jun 16: A Panchaloha idol of Goddess Mookambika was found in Papanashini rivulet near Udyavar Bolje on Tuesday June 15.

The idol was found when a local fisherman, Dogu, was catching fish. The idol got trapped in the net spread by him. He handed over the idol to the cheif priest of Goddess Mahalaxmi at Uachila, Vedamurthy Raghavendra Upadhyaya.

Vedamurthy Raghavendra Upadhya said that the idol is hundreds of years old, and as it is made of Panchaloha, it is in very good condition. It resembles the idol of Goddess Mookambika at Kollur with four arms, he said. The idol weighs about 15 kg and he guessed that at the time of installing the new idol, someone would have discarded the old one in water. He said that the idol is being worshipped by him now and asked anyone connected with the idol to contact him.
