Two held for forcing over 1,000 conversions in UP

Lucknow, Jun 21 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh ATS have arrested two people from Delhi for allegedly forcing over 1000 people to change their religion.

The two accused, Umar Gautam and Jahangir, have allegedly forced around 1000 non-Muslims to convert to Islam.

One of the accused revealed that he is a resident of Batala house in Jamia Nagar and he himself has converted his religion.

UP ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said in a press conference here on Monday that there is a racket operating in the state, forcing people to convert to Islam.

Kumar confirmed that around 1000 people have converted their religion till now.

The ADG further said that these two people used to target poor families, unemployed youth, and handicapped people, especially those who were hearing and speech impaired, children and forced them to change their religion.

According to the police, people were lured to convert their religion for money and financial stability.

UP ADG also mentioned that this might be a case of funding from ISI for religious conversions.

Prashant Kumar also said that many women have been forced to change their religion and were married off.

He said that the racket was operating in Noida, Kanpur, and Mathura.

The accused used to run a centre named 'Islamic Dawa Centre' that got funding from all across the world.

The police is also tracking those people who got trapped in this racket and is investigating further to understand how they influenced people.

hard to believe. So many people to move to conversion in one effort? Are people so absent minded? They might take money but all of a sudden believe and follow other religion? Were they brain washed?Let us hope something to move in next time.whether they comeback to original religion or to new .Anyway forceful conversion is no go.

Looks like an election gimmick! Are these so called 1000 who converted are brainless? No one can stop a person from converting from one religion to another of his own free will. Nothing is true in India anymore. This is an election gimmick to draw Hindu votes under Hindutva banner. How long this illiterate ways will go on in India? Can we ever go back to our normal days? Surely not under current highly corrupt, autocratic regime.

Maybe they converted Amul babies at gun point or threats. Is that what is meant by conversion. Maybe this is a case of kapda roti and makaan. Religion doesn't feed poverty.

Absolute non sense... Is it a joke to forcefully convert 1000 people?? Try atleast one and see if it is possible by force... One can change only by self will. Even if there is anything by force they wont change permanently but for a short period of couple of days due to fear. Now corona started reducing. One can start hearing such Anti minorities news through which this saffron outfits want to regain their lost fake glory.

Why can't people just focus on their own religion and gods? Why go about in converting others? Our constitution does not approve of forced conversions

First set your house in order then preach others. It’s clear that people are poor, weak and financially unstable who have been targeted. If your administer to thier needs and be a true public servant then everything will fall in its place. Why are you neglecting your own Hindu brothers after winning election by fake promises.
