Saudi Arabia approves mixing of Covid vaccine brands

Daijiworld Media Network - Riyadh

Riyadh, Jun 25: Saudi Arabia is set to begin providing second doses of the vaccine from different brands as it has approved the mixing of Covid-19 vaccine brands, the ministry of health confirmed.

The decision was taken after reviewing the findings of several studies that tested the method’s safety and efficacy, authorities confirmed. Experts from the Ministry have said that the mix-and-match approach could possibly provide better protection against the virus, as studies have shown that it triggers a more robust and longer-lasting immune response, which is likely to protect patients from emerging Covid-19 variants.

The launch of the second dose programme will begin on June 24, and it will cover those of 50 years or older, the ministry of health announced. The ministry announced on Thursday June 24 that the immunisation programme against Covid-19 has covered 70 percent of the adult population in Saudi Arabia.
