Mangaluru, Jun 25: KMC Hospital, here, launched a Gastro-Intestinal (GI) physiology lab with the introduction of oesophageal and anorectal manometry along with impedance PH monitoring. Along with this, the hospital has also started offering biofeedback therapy which is a physiological method of treating ailments without using any medications.
Dr Anurag Shetty, a consultant of Gastroenterology of KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, explained, “Patients with difficulty in swallowing, episodic chest pains (which are not due to heart diseases) can have their diseases accurately diagnosed with oesophageal manometry and can opt for the appropriate treatment. Impedance PH-metry is of importance in patients with reflux disease, heartburn, etc especially in those who are not responding to medications. These tests are important before planning any surgery for reflux disease etc. Anorectal manometry and biofeedback therapy can be used for diagnosing and treating patients with long-standing constipation and those having difficulty in passing stools.”
