Karkala, Jun 26: Thieves entered a house in Nooral, Hosmar in Edu village on June 25 and returned richer by two lac rupees.
The house where the theft occurred is occupied by Ganapathi Shambhu Naik on rent. On June 23, he travelled to the residence of his in-laws at Kumta. On his return on Friday, he found that his house had been burgled. The thieves who broke open the front door bolt of the house, reportedly took away several gold ornaments worth about two lac rupees.
Deputy superintendent of police, Vijaya Prasad, police circle inspector Sampath Kumar, rural police sub-inspector Tejaswi and other policemen visited the spot. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also were pressed into service.
The dog which caught the smell, went up to the petty shop near the said house. A few cigarette butts were found on the ground there. The police guess that the thieves had taken rest there for some time before fleeing, and the theft could have taken place by locals who had information about the absence of the tenant.
A case has been registered at the rural police station. The police are investigating.
