Udupi: JNNURM buses start operating in city after month-long hiatus

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD/MS)

Udupi, Jun 28: Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses started operating from the city bus stand here from Monday June 28. Though the go ahead was given to run JNNURM buses by the government, the operation was held up because of lack of passengers.

On Monday, two JNNURM buses started operating in the city. They are running on Udupi-Padukere, Udupi-Garadimajalu and Udupi-Parkala routes.

Good response is seen for KSRTC bus service between Udupi and Kundapur. KSRTC bus service is the only mode of cheap transport for the public at the moment.

KSRTC buses are already plying from the city to places like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Agumbe and Shivamogga. People are demanding to increase the JNNURM buses. The number of two-wheelers has also gone up due to Covid scare. Most of the people are avoiding travel by public buses and prefer to ride or drive their own vehicles. Due to this, traffic congestion has increased in the city.
