Mangaluru, Jun 28: In Dakshina Kannada district, coronavirus positivity rate is dripping gradually. In particular, rural areas have been witnessing a sharp decline in new cases. All the villages which had been sealed earlier have been opened up.

During the early stages of coronavirus first and second wave, the city and Bantwal were affected. Later, they started to spread to the rural areas located in Sullia and Beltangady taluks.

The district administration, which took these things as a challenge, 17 villages with active positive cases of above 50 were sealed down on June 1.

On the basis of past experience, at first, standalone house or buildings having a couple of houses were sealed down. Then villages were also sealed. As a result, Koyyur, which had 52 cases as on June 14 came down to 1.

Last time, ten villages from the district were identified as the ones which faced lot of problems. But this time, only Kariyangala village finds itself in the list. In urban areas, six of the most troubled spots were from the district.

District health officer, Dr Kishore Kumar, said that Covid cases have become less over a period of time.
