Udupi Jun 28: We will request the central government for a special package of Rs 100 crore for the devastation caused by coastal erosion, said district in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai.
He was speaking after presiding over a district progress review meeting held at the zilla panchayat hall on Monday, June 28.
"An estimated 9,115 meters of coastal erosion was caused by Tauktae Cyclone and other natural disasters in the district. Loss of more than Rs 90 crore has been estimated due to natural calamities. We will request the central government for a special package of Rs 100 crore for a permanent solution to coastal erosion," he said.
Minister Bommai also said that a special SDRF team would be allotted to the district to deal with natural disasters in the district.
"In order to prevent the third wave of Covid, the district has to complete the health check-up program of 2.40 lac children by August 15. Health checks in each village for children, distribution of nutritional food kits, free medicines to children with malnutrition should be provided. Children who need special care should be admitted to private hospitals and should be given free treatment under the Ayushman scheme," he directed the officials.
Minister Bommai stated that the amendment to the Ayushman scheme would enable all children who are referred for treatment in a private hospital under the Vasthalya program will get free treatment (includes both APL and BPL cardholders). He also instructed the officials to vaccinate parents and teachers under this program.
The district will be receiving 10,000 Covid vaccines every day and it should be used on the same day, Bommai suggested.
Minister Bommai congratulated all the doctors, health department officials, support staff and the district administration in their efforts to contain the second wave of Covid.
In order to effectively prevent the third wave of Covid, 50 ICU beds for children in the district and taluk hospitals should be equipped with all the necessary facilities including a ventilator, he instructed.
