Mangalore: Daijiworld Quiz Contest - Six Colleges Qualify for Finals

Mangalore, Sep 5: The inter-collegiate quiz competition hosted by Daijiworld to mark its decennial celebrations was off to a splendid start on Sunday September 5 with teams from 28 colleges from different parts of the twin districts arriving well before the scheduled start.
The quiz has been organised in association with St Agnes College.
The written preliminary round was conducted at the Sofia Hall of the college. Six teams have made it to the finals which will be held at 2 pm. The finalists are Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), St Aloysius College, Nitte Engineering College and St Agnes College.
Earlier, a brief inaugural programme was held at 10 am at the college's main auditorium, led by St Agnes College principal Sr Prem D'Souza. In her inaugural address, she urged the students to make optimum use of the opportunity and encouraged them to participate with a keen enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge. While wishing the participants good luck, she also advised them not to get discouraged if they lost as participation was more important than winning.
Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief, daijiworld.com, Hemacharya, programme coordinator and editor of Daijiworld Weekly, Melvyn Rodrigues, director of operations, Daijiworld, Mahesh Nayak, quiz master of the competition, Allwyn Pinto, main coordinator of Daiji Rang Mandir, Titus Noronha, head of Rahul Advertisers, and Tina D'Souza, president of St Agnes College students' council, were present on the dais.
The inaugural programme was compered by Leslie Rego. It was followed by a variety entertainment programme presented by the students of St Agnes College. Munita Veigas compered the cultural event that comprised colourful dances which had the audience tapping their feet.
The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 3.30 pm. Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS commissioner of police, Mangalore city will be the chief guest. Felix Lobo, NRI entrepreneur and Sr Prem D’Souza will be the guests of honour.
Winners will take home cash prizes and trophies. The first prize is Rs 20,000 while second prize is Rs 10,000 and third prize Rs 5,000. All other finalists will receive consolation prizes.
The quiz is being held as part of a series of events aimed at intellectual and cultural awakening to commemorate Daijiworld’s success as a pioneering media enterprise.
The finals will be telecast LIVE on TVDaijiworld 2 pm onwards.
