Swiss Woman Marries Hindu Priest in Madhya Pradesh

Khandwa (MP), Sep 5 (PTI): A Swiss woman married a Hindu priest at Arya Samaj Temple in Khandwa district on Sunday morning.

The marriage rituals were performed with Hindu traditions amidst chanting of Vedic mantras.

The bride Silviya Rabnann (33), daughter of Hans Peter Rabnann, was on a travel visa to India to visit historical and religious pilgrimages and during her travel she came to Omkareshwar where she met Pawan Das Maharaj (39) of Hans Kutir, an ashram on Parikrama marg and was so impressed that she became his disciple.

She urged him to accompany her to religious places in India and during the tour love blossomed between them.

Silviya told PTI that she had a lot of love and respect for India and its traditions, which is a reason for her choosing this country for her travels.

She said that she has embraced Hinduism and will try to go deep into the religion and learn its ethos.

Mr. K Punja, Hinduism is drawn from the civilisation of many invaders along with locally adopted belief at around 3000 BC. Earlier they adopted African animism, later the Mediterranean spiritual belief. At around1500 BC the Aryans introduced their belief and called it Vedic religion. They created a divide within the natives and called Aryans fair-skinned upper class. At around 500 BC there was a revolt against the exploitation of religion and mass animal sacrifice by the Aryans hence Jainism & Buddhism had taken birth and spread like wildfire.

Later the Vedic group recouped with modified belief, new gods, restriction to upper class like to go vegetarian etc. They ruthlessly massacred and chased the Buddhists out of India. Later another ruthless Moghal invader introduced their belief and finally the European traders theirs. With the influence of Islam Sufism & Christian missionaries it further transformed into less barbaric and more tolerant and peaceful religion. It even adopted an Arabic influenced word ‘Hindu’ as its new name. Can we deny all these facts?

Let us not hate any religion because all religions are good. The attitude of some of the followers only is the problem.

I am a Catholic. But I love and like Hunduism a lot because there are a lot of good principles and traditons are there in Hinduism.

Hindus are truly peace loving people and have respect for non-Hindus.

I know the history and current scenario in India. But still I like Hindus.

It is difficult to explain my feelings.

DEAR PUNJA,IN YOUR COMMENTS YOU ARE CLAIMING THAT,THE MOGHULS TRIED TO CONVERT INDIA TO ISLAM.MAY BE YOU ARE IGNORANT ABOUT THE HISTORY.I REQUEST YOU TO GO DEEPLY IN TO HISTORY.IF THE MOGHULS WISHED TO CONVERT INDIA IN TO ISLAM IT WAS A EASY TASK FOR THEM IN THAT ERA.BUT THE MOGHULS KNOW THAT,THERE IS NO COMPULSION IN ISLAM (HOLY QURAN CHAPTER 2,VERSE 256).PREACHING ISLAM OR CHRISTIANITY IS THE PART OF THEIR RELIGIOUS DUTY AND THE COMMAND OF THE HOLY BOOKS AS WELL AS THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.IN ISLAM IT IS ONLY TO CONVEY THE MESSAGE.

So When a Swiss woman of western extraction converts to Hinduism, nobody makes a big deal. Who knows if this story is true as there are no pictures. I guess that she was brainwashed with drugs and made to marry this hindu priest. Or she maybe a drug smoking hippie who does not realize that she has it good in the west. I hope these westerners do not fall into more of these Hindu priest traps.

I haven’t heard many comments from my Hindu brothers. Where are the custodians of Hindu culture(rama sene, VHP, muthaliks, BD etc ) Are they listening ?. I think all Christians should go to Kadri police station and lodge a complaint. Does this make sense. LOL..

    Bulsam,

You appear to be mixing your facts up a little. Hinduism is a home grown religion - a way of life with its strenghts and weaknesses handed down by the Aryans as you pointed out and over the ages modified and refined. Also over the ages, many invaders have come to India, and while India has gained culturally from them, it has remained steadfastly a Hindu nation. The Moguls tried to convert Indians to Islam, the Christians did and continue to do so - Ashoka adopted Buddhism and tried to convert the whole country - but India has always gone back to Hinduism as its core religion. This is not by force, by conversion or any such methods - but by choice.

MP Hindu boy converted a Swiss Christian girl to Hindu and married her. Not a big deal?
Go back to world civilization. India was not created with a readymade civilisation and culture instead it slowly happened in a period of time.
Earliest Indian natives were the migrated African tribes whom we call it Adhivasis. Later the Mediterranean influenced seafarers landed in the Indus Valley as well as Southern sea coasts whom we call Dravidians. Far later, more civilized horsemen from Central Asian & Persian crossed over to India from the Northern Mountains whom we call Aryans. Later more brutal and better civilized Indo-Greeks, Manghols, Huns, and Muslims came from the same route and brought further progress to our country. Finally the Eauropeans traded, settled and ruled India for few hundred years. They united badly divided India and introduced many new inovation as well as traded lot of India’s wealth to their countries. Multi-religious natives of India faught and earned freedom and formed a democratic republic.
Then how is that India belongs to the mjority Hindus as claimed by the Hindutvas.

Hinduism and Indian culture is a great phylosophy of life. From Ayurveda to yoga our way of living is a bond between nature and its cohabitants. I am grateful being born as an Indian and following Hindu traditions in my way of life. This way of living attracts many other nationalities because Hinduism is peace and harmony and inner feelings among other things in this chaotic world.
