Udupi, Sep 6: A leopard which was chasing a pet dog accidentally fell into an open well in Soodapalli gram panchayat, near Shirva, on the night of Saturday September 4. Locals and forest personnel managed to rescue both the leopard and the pet dog at around 3 pm on Sunday September 5.
A hungry leopard from the nearby forest had ventured onto the property of Poovappa Sapaliga, residing at Soodapalli, in search of prey. As it tried to flee with the pet dog, both fell in a well on the property.
The Sapaliga family while searching for their pet dog on Sunday morning found both animals in the well, exhausted from swimming in the water. The locals informed the forest department and the officials arrived with cages to be lowered into the well. They then rescued both the animals with the help of local youth.
The forest personnel transported the leopard to the National Reserve Forest at Kudremukh where it was set free. The dog was returned to its master.
