Congress again demands JPC probe into Rafale deal

New Delhi, Jul 3 (IANS): A day after France ordered a judicial probe into the allegations of graft in 36 Rafale fighter jets deal with India, the Congress on Saturday upped its ante against the Narendra Modi government and demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe.

Addressing a press conference virtually, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "The scandalous expose of Rafale scam involving corruption, treason, loss to public exchequer has finally been uncovered."

He said that Congress and former party chief Rahul Gandhi stand vindicated today.

"The French have ordered an investigation into the Rafale scam. On June 14, 2021 French Public Prosecution Services has ordered an investigation for corruption, influence peddling, money laundering, favouritism on the complaint of an NGO," he said.

He said that if the role of former French President Francois Hollande and current President Emmanuel Macron is being investigated, then why not Indian former Defence Minister and an Indian company can also be investigated.

He said that the media outlet in France has revealed the deal between Dassault and an Indian company which constituted a joint venture.

He said, "This substantiates the statement made by then President Francois Hollande, who said that the decision to appoint an Indian company as Dassault's industrial partner was of the Indian government, meaning the Modi government. And the French had no choice into the matter."

He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed a deal worth 7.8 billion euro to buy 36 Rafale jets in place of 126 fighter jets.

Surjewala pointed out that the French government deleted the anti-corruption clause.

"The defects now clearly call for a JPC probe," Surjewala added.

The Congress leader's demand came a day after Mediapart.fr, a media outlet in European country said that a French judge has been appointed to lead a judicial investigation into alleged corruption and favouritism in the 7.8 billion euro sale to India of 36 fighter aircrafts.

JPC which can unearth the truth within a limited timeframe is a must. JPC should not be used for politicking. People need to know the facts and its cover up.

BJP or Congress, any deal with the Indian Govt. cannot be concluded without paying hefty bribe to our politicians. Congress has done it in the past and BJP is doing it now. Our politicians are the licenced thieves, who are there to sell their motherland. Now the investigation should be done to find who got what. I always maintained that both the BJP & Congress are two sides of a fake coin.

The incriminating details: "The French website Mediapart says Dassault Aviation signed its first MoU with the Anil Ambani group on March 26, 2015, two weeks before Prime Minister Modi went public in Paris on his decision to buy 36 Rafale jets and scrap the earlier contract for 126 aircraft. “It emerges from the documents that Dassault provided Reliance with remarkably generous financial terms for the establishment of their joint venture. Ordinarily, the partners in a jointly owned subsidiary would provide equal funds for its capital. But that was not the case with DRAL. “The two partners agreed a maximum investment in the subsidiary of 169 million euros. Of that sum, Dassault, which held a 49% stake in DRAL, pledged to provide up to 159 million euros, representing 94% of the total, while Reliance would provide just the remaining 10 million euros. “This meant that Reliance was given the majority 51% stake in the joint venture in return for a relatively very modest sum. “While Reliance brought neither funds nor know-how of any significance to the joint venture, it did bring to it its capacity for political influence. In an extract from one of the documents obtained by Mediapart detailing the agreements between Reliance and Dassault, Anil Ambani’s group was handed the mission of “marketing for programs and services with the GOI” – the acronym for “government of India”.

In regards to sale of Rafael aircrafts to india. It has direct relation for the sale deal and it’s consequences with the other party which is india. France in its jurisdiction can not go to trial in the court without the beneficiary india. So, all the underhand deal between BJP govt and Dassault Inc Rafael has to come to the fore front for court proceedings. Don’t feel so comfortable. You will be caught red handed.

The verdict from apex SC was inconclusive pending submission of related Rafael documents. If govt is not responsible enough for safety and care of sensitive military documents then how competent is your BJPeeee govt???????……No wonder terrorists are freely crossing the borders after 2014 and unleashing assault on Indians and China is encroaching our land with ease and Modi is scared to name China by name and China praises Modi for his anti Indian stand.

So according to you people in BJP are not human and therefore not tempted by money. BJP has done a lot of messy scams in the past and will continue in the future. SC could have asked for a thorough investigation as it's taxpayers and public money that has gone into purchase of the military jets and equipment. But sadly SC chose to wash its hands off the matter.

BJP is completely exposed here. It’s not always baniya business where people’s tax money is involved. BJP has to come out clean and answer since it’s masters in France are being interrogated for this scam, so how BJP can escape being partner in crime. A simple universal truth is If you are innocent then why fear any investigation but guilty BJP will evade JPC with its money, muscle and misuse political influence and power in the country to hush it.
