Aberdeen, U K, Sep 8: Mangaloreans and Goans residing in Aberdeen UK, came together to celebrate the feast of Nativity, Solemnly with traditional fervour and gaiety, at St Marys Cathedral.
A 2-hour retreat on faith, by Br Joel Lasrado, from Divine Retreat Centre, Potta, Kerala , prior to the celebrations, added religious flavour to the celebrations.
Celebrations began with a welcome speech by Dr Maxim D’Costa, who explained the importance of honouring our Mother as well as continuing the tradition of Harvest Festival, though living quite afar from our homeland. All proceeded to Our Lady of Aberdeen Chapel in procession, singing ‘Sokod sangatha Melyam’ carrying kernels of rice specially flown in from India, flowers and fruits.
Cathedral parish priest Fr Chris Brennan blessed the New crop, and children showered flowers honouring our dear Mother while singing ‘Moriek Hogolsiam’
All gathered shared ‘Novenh’ as a symbol of love and unity, and enjoyed traditional delicacies including vornh prepared by different families. Dr Maxim thanked everyone for their support and participation.
