Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 7: District Congress led by former district youth Congress president Mithun Rai carried out a cycle rally from Congress office to Mangaluru City Corporation office on Wednesday July 7 against BJP government for hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Mithun Rai said, “The BJP government has hiked petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis. Petrol has crossed RS 100-mark. During this pandemic, the hike in prices of essential commodities has troubled the public. This protest is not for ‘Andhbhakts’, Modi bhakts or for BJP representatives, but for the public. We are the voices of people in distress.”

Congress leaders A C Vinayaraj, Abdul Rauf, T K Sudhir, Lawrence D Souza, Naveen D Souza, Prakash Salian, Vishwas Das, Appi and others were present.

In Udupi, district Congress committee, in association with the district unit of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and youth Congress, organized a bicycle rally from the district Congress Bhavan, to register protest against the central and state governments relating to price rise.

Former Mangaluru city mayor, Shashidhar Hegde, inaugurated the rally.

Addressing the participants, Hegde said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had run the country's administration efficiently for ten years. "The NDA government which rose to power thereafter, has proved to be anti-people. During The election, they said they would bring down petroleum prices. But now the people have realized about the futility of trusting their assurances. The people now have been hoping that their past days will return. Now, employment and business have reached rock bottom. At the same time, prices of daily essentials apart for fuel price, have been going up beyond the reach of common people. We are holding this protest to condemn the administration by the current government. KPCC has come forward to extend a helping hand to the people facing difficulties on account of
coronavirus for a month," he explained.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, district Congress committee president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Udupi District youth Congress president Deepak Kotian, NISU district president Saurabh Ballal, secretary Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Geeta Wagle, president of the Mahila Congress, and others were present.

Cynthia, because of high feul prices, prices of daily basic commodities must have sky rocketted but salary raise may not match or keep pace with price rise of petrol, diesel so sad. No peace and always people live under stress. When Modi will make people happy? Only talking, extracting mercilessly from people and delivering enough comforts to middle class.🤦‍♂️😩😇

Flavs, true what yiu have mentioned here. Those who experienced it will understand properly and better way. Those who tied black cloth around their eyes, do not mind any amount of hikes. Salarywise, only govt employees, politicians get hike...not the employees of private concerns. Because, they too take out profit with great difficulty...taxes that and this...

I agree that Petrol rate has crossed Rs 100/. Ok but my point is central Government information is that Congress Government time, they have issued Petrol Gold Bonds( instead of money, they gave time bound assurence),to those country from where Petrol purchased. and now the maturity time have come to repay the amount the rates have gone up. But if it is true, then why not demanding White Paper answer from central Government???? They can ask get information through RTI also. Get the fact to public. Why this cycle show???

Oh...achcha ji.......why double ride ? You can take quadruple ride...two behind and one on your shoulder. Your rides not sufficient in the comment section. Parakirthi only sufficient for you....Oh Flavian, they are doing protest for the fuel hike....and not doing female fashion shows in Mangaluru and udupi....kallegi. Still, if you are not convinced, do quadruple rides in salmiya on weekends...😅😅
