Kalaburagi, Jul 8: "There is still a gap of six months for holding zilla and taluk panchayat elections. Therefore, we had discussed the matter in the cabinet meeting and the government had written to the Election Commission recommending the election to be postponed till December. Still, the Election Commission has published reservations of constituencies. Is it possible to hold election now in the midst of corona problem? Is the Election Commission a dictatorship?" wondered rural development and panchayat raj minister, K S Eshwarappa.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday July 7, he said that the mindset of the people has to be assessed before holding an election. By announcing reservation in a haste, the people and ticket aspirants have been mired in confusion. I am not speaking in the capacity of a minister, but as a politician and BJP worker," he explained.
Eshwarappa said that there are some controversies in reservations and there are allegations about backward classes facing injustice. Some have also been preparing to approach courts. But this does not mean that we are unprepared for the election. We are ready to face it any time," he said.
