Udupi: Police brutality on Karkala Congress worker alleged, party warns of protest

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Jul 8: A picture showing a Congress party worker from Karkala lying on a stretcher in a hospital has gone viral on social media. The person in the picture is identified as Radhakrishna Hirgan. Speaking on the matter, the party has alleged that Radhakrishna was assaulted by Karkala police sub-inspector (PSI) Madhu when he was called for an enquiry in connection to a case booked against him.

Back in September 2020, a fake Facebook profile was created in the name of Radhakrishna and derogatory posts against the army were posted through that handle. Radhakrishna had complained about the same in the Gangammagudi police station in Bengaluru. Once the post went viral on social media BJP party workers of Karkala filed a case against Radhakrishna in Karkala police station.

On Thursday, July 8 when Radhakrishna was called for an enquiry at the police station, he was allegedly beaten up by the Karkala PSI in the presence of complainants, stated sources.

It is also said that Radhakrishna had undergone a cardiac operation just a few days ago and was recovering. It is said that the accused police officer had also kicked the Congress worker further affecting his health condition.

Radhakrishna has now been admitted to a private hospital in Manipal. With the incident going viral, Congress members are planning to stage a protest condemning police brutality.

Sharath, what is the story of other side you think? Whatever the story it is, the police have no rights to even beat while making enquiry. BTW, what is your opinion about that lady whose saree was pulled by BJP workers in UP, did you had any? You want to wait for the other story, the other story will come from Whatsup University. The story is already thee is you read it. The police have no right to even tough you, they can arrest you, charge you and produce you to the court but can't use brutality against you. Do you know any rules? Anyway, they don't teach any rules in Whatsup University, how would you know?

Police BRUTALITY is rampant in KARNATAKA. The concerned policeman has to be treated accordingly!!! He must face legal action and not suspension as common in such cases. Police are ARROGANT and brutal attack by them is their right they feel.

Police have no power to beat anyone by law. I hope this policeman undergoes investigation and appropriately punished.

I absolutely agree on this, we need police reforms, investigation should be more towards collection of evidence rather than extracting confession by beating.
