Udupi, Jul 9: District’s superintendent of police (SP) N Vishnuvardhan has ordered a probe into the alleged incident of brutality by Karkala police sub inspector (PSI) on a Congress worker.
It may be recalled, on Thursday July 8, a social media post was went viral on social media which allegedly stated that Radhakrishna Hirgan, a Congress party worker of Karkala, had been brutally beaten by the Karkala PSI when he had come to the station to attend an inquiry into a case filed against him.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, SP Vishnuvardhan said, "I have ordered for an inquiry by Kundapur DySP. I have asked him to probe and submit a report. Based on the findings, action will be initiated. It is a year old complaint against Radhakrishna. We had served several notices directing him to attend for inquiry, but he did not show up. Certain posts are circulated on the social media that the complaint against Radhakrishna was based on a fake post. It might be the case, but that has to be looked into. Yesterday, he had come to Karkala police station to attend the inquiry. The PSI had conducted the enquiry and Radhakrishna was asked to submit documents to prove that the social media post was a fake one. He did not attend the inquiry for almost 11 months. We have records of serving him the notice. I have asked Kundapur DySP Srikanth to conduct an inquiry and file a report in two days.”
Karkala Congress party members alleged that Radhakrishna was beaten up by the Karkala PSI when he had been to the station to attend the inquiry.
Former chief minister Siddaramaiah also tweeted regarding the incident and demanded for a thorough inquiry into the incident.
