Udupi: Rotary Club Kallianpur funds house construction of poor couple

Udupi, Jul 11:  Rotary Club of Kallianpur did the noble work of getting a beautiful house built for the Geetha-Dinesh couple, who were living in a thatched house in the plot allotted to them by the government at Laxmi Nagar of Kodavoor.

Rtn Anand Shetty, who knew the issues faced by the Geetha Dinesh couple had discussed the matter with the members of the Rotary club of Kallianpur. President Rtn Desmond H Vas took the initiative in getting a house built for the couple.

The construction of the new house on an area of 300 square feet started on June 11 under the leadership of Rtn Divakar P and was handed over to the couple on July 8 by the new president of Kallianpur Rotary club Rtn Shambhushankar. The house has a bedroom, portico, washroom and bathroom and has tiled flooring.

Immediate past secretary Rtn Alan V Louis of Rotary district 3182 did the introductory speech on the occasion and said, “Rotary Club is an organization which brings changes in the society with selfless motive. It works with the aim of providing a happy life to the have-nots in the society by identifying and offering a helping hand.”

Councillor Vijay Kodavoor, the new secretary of Kallianpur rotary Rtn Prakash, former assistant governor Rtn Devadas Shettigar, members of Kallianpur Rotary club and villagers were present.

Rtn Ramakrishna Achar compered the event.
