Mangalore, Sep 9: It is the duty of parents to encourage the latent talent in children, said ustad Rafique Khan, sitar player.

He was speaking after inaugurating, Chiguru, a dance programme organized by the department of Kannada and culture in association with Bimba Charitable Trust at the Bishop Jathanna auditorium of the Karnataka Theological College here, recently. "it is only when encouraged the talent children in will see a growth and it will be possible for them to make a name for themselves, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Kuyilady Suresh Nayak, entrepreneur and theatre artiste from Udupi said that it is very imprtant for parents and teachers to love children like they love god. Teach the children art forms that reflect our culture, he stressed.

College principal Hannibal Richard Cabral (Honey Cabral) presided.

In all 85 children performed mainly folk variety from various states such as Punjab, Goa, Maharashtra including Karnataka. A filmy dance too was performed to show the range of talent among children. Few children also rendered light music, Hindustani semi-classical music and old Hindi movie songs.

Trust treasurer and theatre artiste Kasargod Chinna delivered the introductory address. Yakshagana artiste P V Paramesh proposed teh vote of thanks, while Archana Prabhu compered the programme.

At the end of the programme, all the participating children were distributed certificates by Jagannath, Manmohan Padiyar, Sadashiv Suvarna, Jaya Pai, Narendra Shenoy and Nandagopal. Centre for Integrated Learning director Sachita Nandagopal, Arjun awardee athlete Vandana Pai, trust managing director Gauri Suhas Rao and Suhas Rao were present.
