Mangaluru: Manipal School pre-primary children observes national Doctors’ Day

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 12: On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, the pre-primary children of Manipal School expressed their gratitude to doctors for their selfless service especially during the current pandemic.

A celebration was held via the virtual platform on July 2. The children enthusiastically donned the role of doctors by wearing aprons and handmade stethoscopes using ribbon and headband. They acted like doctors, wore masks, sanitised their hands, used their stethoscopes to examine their dummy patients (dolls/toys). The students thoroughly enjoyed this virtual session by interacting with their teachers and friends.

Dr Nafeesath Asfara (BDS), Dr Tejaswini (MCh in plastic surgery) and Dr Sabiha Shaikh (PG resident at MCODS) who also happen to be from the parent fraternity of the school were the special invitees for the day.

Dr Sabiha Shaikh gave a motivational talk to the children of Prep 2. She explained the safety measures that need to be taken care of during the current pandemic. In her talk, she gave ideas to the children on how they can keep themselves occupied at home and make the best use of the time they get to spend with their families.

At Prep 1, Dr Nafeesath Asfara, shared a video on dental hygiene and stressed its importance. She demonstrated the right way to brush teeth by using dentures. It was a pleasure to watch the children imitating her instructions. Dr Tejaswini explained a few general guidelines on health and hygiene. She highlighted the importance of wearing a mask, sanitizing, social distancing and washing hands. She used flashcards of fruits and vegetables and encouraged the children to include healthy food in their diet. In the process of enactment of getting the subject (patient) vaccinated she showed different tools a doctor uses and their function like a stethoscope, BP machine, injection, cotton and bandage. It was a delight to watch how keen the little ones were to seek all this information.

Teachers and students congratulated and thanked the doctors and had some rhyming fun.

The students expressed their gratitude to the doctors for their selfless service during this current pandemic by presenting a quote 'We wish your life to be wonderful and healthy just like you make it for us. We admire you greatly. Thank you for giving the confidence to smile with sparkle'.

The celebration concluded by saluting and clapping for the doctors working in the forefront amid the pandemic. Doctors are special, and this year is one where we have seen them as our real-life heroes. Manipal School thanks the medical fraternity for their selfless contributions as the world is gripped with this pandemic.
