Udupi, July 17: Anganwadi workers association staged protests today near the office of the deputy commissioner for their various demands.
The association leader Susheela Nadagowda addressing the protesters said that the government has discriminated between the insurance of their workers who died of Coronavirus and the insurance of Corona frontline workers. “While the government pays compensation of Rs fifty lac for Asha workers, it pays Rs thirty lac to Anganwadi workers. The discrimination should be removed. The government has also introduced the ‘Poshan Tracker’ app. Certain details have to be entered in the mobile app. The beneficiaries in it are provided nutritious food. It is being said that the salary of the Anganwadi workers who do not upload the details are being reduced. The ‘poshan app’ should be done away with.
“The union government sends us seeds to grow Nutri gardens. But several of us live in rented houses facing scarcity of space. How can the scheme be implemented? Our jobs should be made permanent and pension should be paid to us after retirement. The government has not distributed sarees to us. We are being asked to upload our photos after several programmes but the government delays providing uniforms to us."
She also urged for the right to stand for elections, implementation of existing facilities and creation of a grievances committee.
Anganwadi workers association district president Bharati, Geeta Pangala, Udupi taluk president Ambika, secretary Pramila, Ashalatha, Yashodha and others were present.
