Bantwal, Jul 12: Former minister B Ramanath Rai on Monday, July 12 said that irrespective of their caste and religion intellectuals should come forward to protest against the BJP-led union and state governments for misleading the people over emotional issues.
He was speaking after flagging off a cycle rally from Hanuman temple Baddakatte to Kaikamba Junction in BC Road against BJP government for hike in fuel and other commodities, organized by the Bantwal and Panemangalore Block Congress.
"Though the crude oil price was high in the international market, the then UPA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had led the country in an efficient manner, without burdening the common man. But, now the situation is different in Narendra Modi-led BJP government," Rai said.
KPCC secretary Kavitha Ramesh said, "BJP leader CT Ravi is criticising the Congress. He has no morality when it comes to responding to the problems faced by the common man."
Former MLC Shanthi Gowda said that no MPs dare to hold discussions with the Prime Minister. The PM has maintained a distance from MPs. He has failed to respond to the problems of the people. The employment generation is still a dream.
DCC president Harish Kumar said that the BJP government is fooling the people, by giving false assurances.
State Mahila Congress secretary, Veena Bhat, district minority cell president, Sahul Hamid, Youth Congress president Lukman Bantwal and others were present.
Protestors also questioned the silence of union minister Shobha Karandalje over the fuel hike but had raised her voice during the UPA government.
