Mangaluru, Jul 13: The coastal districts experienced heavy rains with occasional breaks from Sunday night to Tuesday morning. The rain has continued battering the coast till noon.
The meteorological department had issued red alert and asked the fishermen against undertaking fishing. The rainwater overflowed drains, roads were inundated, trees fell and in some places, and power connection was snapped. In Dakshina Kannada district nine houses we partially damaged as the rain was accompanied by strong wind.
'A tree which got uprooted on Monday morning at Kadri Shivbagh blocked the road while another tree fell on the compound wall of an apartment complex in Lalbagh. A compound wall crashed at Yeyyady. The fire and forest department personnel were busy clearing the trees from the roads. The sea continued to be tumultuous in Ullal, Someshwar and other seashores in the district.
The meteorological department has issued orange alert till July 16. It said that heavy rainfall coupled with thunder are likely during this period. The district administration has alerted people living in low lying areas to be vigilant. People visiting beaches have been warned against entering the sea.
