Moodbidri, Jul 15: Dhanalaxmi and Shubha, who are studying in Alva's Education Foundation here under the sports quota adoption scheme, have been selected to participate in the Olympics tournament beginning on July 23 at Tokyo. Both of them will represent India in the 4x400 meters mixed relay section.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday July 14, chairman of the foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, said that both of them have been the students of Alva's institutions from the academic year 2017. He said that both of them have been taking part in the Mangalore University and all India inter-university tournaments, bringing laurels to the educational institution and the state. He said that they also have represented India in several international sports events and held the flag of the country high.
Both of them are from Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Many sports students of Alva's have achieved considerably in Olympics events. Like them, these two too will be given one lac rupees each by way of incentive, Alva stated.
Yediyurappa’s good gesture for Olympians
In the meanwhile, speaking at Bengaluru, chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, has announced prize money of five crore rupees for sportspersons from the state winning the Olympics gold medal and three crore rupees to the silver medallists. Those who will bronze will get two crore rupees.
He was speaking after disbursing ten lac rupees each announced by the youth empowerment and sports department to achievers. Srihari Nataraj, Aditi Ashok and Fouaad Mirza were given the cheques.
