Blasphemous comments on Mecca: Harish Bangera set to be released from Saudi prison

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jul 15: Harish Bangera who was arrested and imprisoned by the Saudi authorities for making blasphemous comments on the Saudi Crown Prince and Mecca, the holy site of Muslims across the world, is set to be released and will be arriving at his native soon.

Sathish Kumar Bajal, president of Mangaluru Association Saudi Arabia (MASA) informed that Harish Bangera will be back soon. The MASA has paid for the flight tickets. Satish also thanked the Indian Embassy, Indian Overseas Forum, Manikantan, Mohammed Shareef, Dammam, Prasanna Bhat, Riyadh, Prakash Poojary, Riyadh, Kamalaksha Adyar, Al Kober, Joyson and others for their help in the release of Harish Bangera.

It may be recalled that Harish Bangera who hails from Kundapur, was working as an AC technician in Damman. He had landed in trouble for allegedly uploading a blasphemous and provocative post on Facebook on December 21, 2019.

As the post came to the attention of Saudi authorities, the police in Dammam arrested him within an hour after the complaint was made.

Harish's employers too terminated him from the job with immediate effect.

The incident has become a grave reminder to Indians staying in Gulf and Middle East countries against uploading any blasphemous or objectionable posts and pictures online, relating to religious beliefs. Cyber rules are very strict and the authorities are known to take immediate and stringent action against anyone posting inflammatory comments on social media.

Why is it ommited that he did not make those comments, 2 brothers Abdul Huyez and Abdul Thuyez, made a fake account in his name and posted deregatory comments to get him arrested. Udupi police had arrested them in 2020. https://www.daijiworld.com/news/newsDisplay.aspx?newsID=762132

Freedom of speech is the bedrock of democracy and violent tyrants and dictators are out to silence any forms of dissent. However, that is not to be confused by willful slander, and libel when one says or does things that wrongfully brings disrepute to a person, organization, religion or country.

Rsrb kundapur...Sanjay Hebri...I absolutely agree here with what you said...If he was innocent or framed, he should have been released immedeatly but u must have also seen the video where he is apologising to everybody after realising the gravitiy of the mistake..He is an uneducated guy who has no idea about the law of land..He thought that its ok to use social media , the way it is used in india...His biggest mistake is getting influenced by hate culture against one religion..Brother..you knw the best solution..we need to kick this social media out of our lives and we all will be fine..

AJ, Mangalore Despite doing not mistake, I have seen people apologizing with powerful entities. Sometimes, innocents apologize with police. Also innocents apologize to rowdies / dacoits. Apology is part of the escaping technique from powerful (sometimes powerful are right people and sometimes powerful are wrong people). Real apology is the one where individuals do silently with GOD.

sense_Shetty, Mical ,Kudla ,Kodial First of all, what “regard” you expect from minorities? Do you think the socalled minorities are not equivalent to majorities to give you special regard? If you expect such special regard, respect and attention from us like you expect from those Dalits, then I would say don’t expect such things from us. We can respect you like we respect the people belonging to our own communities, not more than that. It’s only in India where we have minorities and majorities, nowhere in the world. People like you expect special regard but don’t give that regard to those minorities. I lived in the Mid-East Countries and as long as you are law-abiding citizens, there is no harm for you. I’m now living in a country where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians are equal. You are not treated based on your religion and color. The Whites or Christians don’t expect special regard from Blacks or other immigrants. A piece of advice to you: give respect to minorities and get respect from them. You are not superior to them. They are also Indians like you. The only superiority people like you have is muscle power which they don’t have.

Saudi has changed a lot because of the new crown prince who is very impartial and accomodating. Good that the kattar panthis are changing.. now the majority religion of INdia cannot say that they are the only ones who are tolerant, though it does not stand good now as right wing organizations are creating havoc throughout the country.

Most of the good recruitment companies, before sending people to Saudi Arabia for jobs as well as good companies in Saudi Arabia before starting the work, orient employees that they have to keep away from politics, religion and women. Also, they instruct that as employees have come to Saudi Arabia with all their limbs, Saudi govt expects them to go back to India with all their limbs intact. Anyway, this man has made a mistake and thank God, he is released early. This incident is a reminder to all employees in KSA.

He had a job in Saudi which could feed his family and live peacefully, now he has come back home with no job and no idea of life ahead im pretty sure no religious organization would come to his help. These organizations only know to add unwanted thinking to poor peoples mind and when they need help they are unheard. Atleast this guy should learn from his past and make his life a beautiful and better one. All religion speaks about living with harmony and brother hood .. its only we have made rules as per our needs and divided society based on politcal needs.

Egypt's Nasser started hunting the Muslim Brotherhood leaders in the early 1960s, and Saudi Arabia sheltered them, gave them jobs as judges, religious scholars and school teachers. These Egyptians completely overtook the Saudi Government and its policies. The 1979 Mecca incident only helped their stranglehold. MBS had the courage to clip their wings. They lost their jobs, income, houses and even citizenship. Suddenly we find hardly anything qualifies as a religious offence. If something does, the punishment is very little. Mr Bangera has been saved by MBS' reforms.
