UAE Workers Should Get Equal Number of Holidays: Gulf News

Abu Dhabi, Sep 12 (IANS/WAM): Employees of private sector firms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) should be given holidays equal to the number of government holidays, the UAE's newspaper Gulf News has said.

On Eid this year, those working in the public sector are enjoying a long holiday beginning Wednesday till the weekend. But private sector workers have a two-day holiday which coincides with the weekend, the newspaper said in its editorial Friday.

"It is wrong for government and private sector employees to have different holidays", it said, adding: "We support longer holidays for the private sector".

Every employer wants to save the money by not giving holidays on his own. the business is already suffering due to global recision in this situation if the company's are giving holidays volunteerly it is huge loss for them.

We have to think about the employers also before commenting, and more over that what do a person do having such a long holidays? he will simply sleep in the home or go to shopping malls spending his hard earned money. so i feel whatver the holidays are given is more than sufficient.

why blame the government if they discriminate between the public and private sectors? Why dont we blame our bosses for this. why dont the bosses in the private sector give holidays as per the public sectors., i.e. if governement has announced 4 days for public secotr, why dont our bosses on their 4 days holidays for their offices!!!!!

If husband and wife works, for different sector, atleast the one who is working in private can take leave and enjoy eid with spouse. But if a man work for private sector, and just get 2 days off, he even can not think of visiting his family back home. Private sector Jobs, donot pay you handsome/decent salary too.

Yes..100%. It should be made equall. Only this question arise during Eid holidays yearly. Also the weekend should be made Fri & Sat., so all can enjoy & plan a holiday or get together.

This is the partiality shown by the govt. of Dubai on the part of private sector workers. We lost most of the holidyas this year because it fell on Fridays.

Absolutely right. UAE labour should be same for all employees working in UAE, there should not be descrimination of holidays in private and government sectors.

I definitely support this view because a family cannot enjoy the holidays if the husband and wife work for different sectors. What use is the long holiday for one spouse and children if the husband or wife is at work
