Mangaluru: College administration to face action if ragging not curbed, warns police commissioner

Mangaluru, Jul 18: City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar has issued a strict warning against ragging in educational institutions and said that case would likely be filed against the administrative boards of colleges and institutions if their junior students are ragged by seniors.

In a statement issued to the media, Shashi Kumar said, "Four cases of ragging have been reported in the city in the past six months. More than 20 students have been arrested in this connection. There are more than two lac students from other states as well as from other countries. Police department has taken measures to protect them. Even then some cases are being reported.

"Stringent action will be taken against students who involve in incidents of ragging. Already administrative committees of all colleges have been instructed to take action to protect the junior students from ragging. They have been advised to form a committee to prevent ragging.

"If any negligence is noted on the part of the administrative committee of the educational institution, case will be registered against the committee also," he said.

The city police commissioner also said that the students who have been arrested in the ragging incident of July 14 are all natives of Kerala state.

    City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar; the words; stringent action will be taken, I am considering this as not serious unless you act. Your actions are waited. First serve notices to all College Educational Institutions about the menace of ragging. This will be a warning to them and they will be forced to take disciplinary actions against erring students. Most of the Educational Institutions are nothing but money making biz centres, whose rock bottom goal is money. Can we expect your actions?

    Any student arrested for criminal activity with a police FIR should be debarred and deported or sent back to his home with no refund of whatever he paid to get the seat. The college management is primarily responsible for bringing such hooligans to our state if at all they are from others states. It is time to discipline these wayward Keralites may be for rash driving or creating law and order issues.

    the laxity of the college administration and the police not taking strict action is the root cause for such continuous behaviour. Keralites wherever they go are troublemakers. No such problems exists in the gulf. Should be given ratan cane treatment like singapore. Everything will be ok. But our police are puska.

    Very good movement by Mangalore Police Commissioner keeping the Institute in circle, in case of ragging. Mushroom like grown colleges are only focus on admission without scrutinizing character ete. Results end with hooliganism.

    Stop issuing admission for keralites no worry no fuss, the issue is some of our own Mangaloreans are supporting mallus for PG buisness hence they disagree for any comments against mallus, what these ppl don't realise is that they are big nuisance in our state for various reasons you will see in future in news the kind of criminal activities they carry out in DK.

    This is nothing but failure of college management. Specially for seniors, management must take undertaking from students regarding behavior. I think mostly students from outside the state creating this problems.

    In this case Parents of concerned students should face punishment, for not discipling their Children at home, , by punishing parents Charbi of ragging students will melt., concentrate on studies, allow young and new students to concentrate on their studies, only filthy rich have time for ragging, this has to be stopped, Why the admin, should bear the pain , let the parents suffer , because of their son/daughters behaviour. Or stop such rogues from entering the College premises.

    This step taken by the Police Commissioner is perfectly right because the college administrative is soft on ragging for fear of losing high capitation fees collected by outsiders.

    Action on Colleges be tightened in addition to debarring and giving severe punishment to the students. If possible the parents of the students be punished if this trend goes on. Ragging on junior students will have its own repercussions on the life of students .

    as per press reports, mallus are the only / main culprits in this heinous activity in mlr.... wherever mallu in large numbers, police should station a police team in the college itself round the clock... the affected students can straight away approach them right there and police can haul up the offenders and pack them to police station...
