'Baseless', IT minister rubbishes reports of Pegasus project

New Delhi, Jul 19 (IANS): A day after media reports of alleged spying of journalists and other personalities of the country with Pegasus spyware surfaced, the Union Information and Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, while replying on behalf of the government to the questions of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, rubbished the reports of espionage.

He said it is an attempt to malign Indian democracy.

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said by logic, the website only tried to create sensation through baseless news reports. If the members pay proper attention to the news, then they themselves will understand this, he said.

The Union Minister said, "NSO has also said that the report is false and baseless. Any kind of illegal surveillance is not possible in our system. This media report coming a day before Parliament session is not a coincidence."

The minister was making a statement on the Pegasus project reports, published in The Wire, which showed that over 300 hone numbers - including those of two serving ministers, over 40 journalists, three opposition leaders among others could have been targeted for hacking through Pegasus spyware.

I expected this silly reactionary statement from the GOI. How dare anyone insult this august country? Minister to learn to face facts and counter them with facts, if he has any. Even though there are new cabnet faces, the statements are still the same -rolled out from a BJP invented AI machine, possibly!

Minister says it’s to malign Indian democracy. What democracy he is talking about while the country is in Emergency Like Situation and snooping on opponents is need of the hour. As per BJP’s logic it’s to malign BJP’s brand of democracy and not actual Indian constitutional democracy. Indian democracy is vindicated here by exposing BJP’s fake democracy.

This time the congress is playing smart .. They Did some drama before parliamentary session of Sidhu-Amarinder singh conflict ,Then Mamta kept the PM occupied ..now one day before there is a pegasys report (Which no one knows head and tail) .Its well orchestrated .. Now everything else discussion on development will happen .. Clearly the BJP lacks these skills of orchestration like the congress.
