Christians express reservations about Yogi's population policy

Lucknow, Jul 23 (IANS): Carrying forward the debate on Yogi Adityanath's population policy, the Christian community in Lucknow has expressed its reservations about it.

In a statement, Bishop of the Diocese of Lucknow, Father Gerald J Mathias said that the Christian community had strong reservations about the proposed population policy.

"Experts have proved that the so-called population explosion is a myth and that it is not true that we do not have enough economic resources to sustain the population," he said.

Reacting to statements of the government on marriage and family planning, he said that these are sacred institutions that need to be respected and protected.

"The decision regarding family planning, spacing and number of children are personal prerogatives and rights of a married couple. Any force or coercion to bring about a reduction in the number of children goes against the very basic creed of human conscience. Any attempt to give incentives, particularly disincentives like no-government jobs, no promotions, no subsidy, reduction in ration card units, bar on contesting elections, is tantamount to coercion and intimidation of the person,' he said.

Father Mathias mentioned about the 'sad and unhappy' experience of China that initially tried to curb its population and is now encouraging more children.

You are right. It’s personal choice to have as many children you want . And it’s governments right to form policies that help ease the economic and social tension. You either choose between personal choice or economic benefit . We do not want to be like few of the highly dense countries producing and distributing refugees , human traffickers, criminals and fraudsters to the world .

As gng thru vaccination satus I learnt one thing the population of each state.... I always thought UP is the biggest state area wise.... But not it's in no. 4, but their population 22crs, Maharashtra 12crs .... People of UP have their unusual morning ndset. They think that children die due to various reasons, if they one died rest will be there, if they have one or 2 children n they loose them they will be childless.... In urban areas they have improved but not in villages. Secondly a boy in the family to carry on their family name...it will take years to change their mindset.... Only by giving them proper education can this problem be solved. This I am sharing as I interacted with many of UP women.

Politicians refuse to accept blame for their failure to create jobs with sensible economic and education policies. Bisht and other BJP leaders want to change the topic from the bad economy by bringing up the population issue.

No one is stoping couple from have more than 2 kids....they can if they want to but as citizens we also need to realise that we don't have the employment market or agricultural land to economically sustain the population. Fewer kids the better- when ppl are less value for life is more.

I have not seen any catholic family having more than two children, with a few exceptions, I believe religious leaders should not comment on the policy of the government which does not effect us.

Infact we need more children, looks like population collapse soon, these evil elites and communists chinese already planned big slealthily to promote their races only... Following eye opener article by Mike Adams at cairnsnews.org on how globalists using viruses, vaccine generated strains, to decimate much population, following few excerpts, for more refer link, ... "The end goal, as globalists like Bill Gates openly support, is the elimination of billions of human beings living today. Ideally, globalists seek to reduce the world population to about 500 million people, which is roughly a 94% reduction in the current human population."... Thus, people won’t be dropping dead right away after taking the vaccines. Instead, they will seem fine until the next major bioweapon pandemic hits them, at which point the fatality rate will be extremely high (perhaps as high as 75% averaged across all age groups). The next strain to be released via the vaccines will be COVID-21, and the COVID-21 strain could be rightly considered the second half of a binary weapon system that will achieve extremely high kill rates for human beings across the globe.... Frankly speaking this choice to be given solely to the married couple who should decide considering the resources to bring up the children and educate them. First and foremost the poorest people should be given education to understand the future and upliftment of their families. There is no meaning people in the hutments who are illiterate and the children don't even have sufficient clothes to wear and/or enough good food on their plates and they have to beg on streets. Let the government be responsible to uplift such areas and educate those families on family care and educate them on birth control .

Everything is very expensive nowadays- Healthcare, Education, cost of living etc so it does not make sense to have more children in a country which does not provide social security for its citizens.

In new policy, restriction will be on the government facility and employment. Everybody knew, who got facility or employment. Most of the people, already, voluntarily opt for 1 or 2 children. There should be scientific analysis. Otherwise due to unscientific family planning and natural calamities, China may emerge, major manpower supplier of the future world.

Why target minorities?????…..Minorities as the the name suggests are minority in population. Let the competent authority analyze the rate of population increase since 1947 in any section of the society then take amicable unbiased measures to control the population but not drastic life threatening measures. Unfortunately its a vote bank endeavour by this communal govt.

Why should the Bishop worry about it because even without such measure I see Christian couples having one or some times no kids at all. At this rate anyway by the end of this century Christians will be only one percent. OR LESS .Thanks to so called ' modern thinking' ..

The existing generation suffer enough in the country, there's nothing called "modern thinking" for having no kids. Its their personal choice. Also its true population explosion is a myth created to reduce the existing population of minorities in the country.

Rajesh Mulki,as you say why Bishop should worry? As head of christian soceity he should also clear the matter to catholics.Sure why should Yogi worry about Populations?First of all educated people know how it is to raise a family with one ,two or dozen.First of all govt.should see to educate the children ,people ,to prepare for the future.Let them pay enough salary for workers ,so that can look after the family accordingly.same time I feel in some religions ,people marry once or thrice as they want ,have children abandon previous one ,then they suffer powerty,no means to live, education.such things should be looked after .security of family is important. Then automatically it adjusts itself the family .look our childrens homes, abandoned children.illegal children, whom to ask ?If someone goes to help family with children etc, they raise doubt and say conversion.as if one doesnt have no other problems.

YOGI ji, is not the right person to decide population policy as he is single and don't have his own children's!!! He was a MP for many years but still single. To control population is a broad subject matter and should be debated, discussed and then be decided by all sections of Society to take opinion of all caste and creed along with professionals.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jew and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
