University College Mangaluru celebrates National Mango Day

Mangaluru, Jul 24: Students of Environment Association and Innovation Club of University College Mangaluru celebrated the National Mango Day on Thursday, July 22. The day is celebrated every year on the July 22 to honour the National fruit and the king of fruits.

The guest speaker of the day, alumni of the college, Ramnarayan Bhat, gave a talk on the history of Mango Day and interesting facts about mangoes. He mentioned the story of a Mango Man Kalimullah Khan from Malihabad, Lucknow who is famous for his rare technique of growing more than 300 varieties of mangoes of on one tree.

Club member Spoorthi presented detailed descriptions with pictures of major varieties of mangoes. Innovation Club Coordinator Dr Siddaraju M N also shared some valuable information about mangoes and few facts about Srinivasapura mango market neal Kolar, which is Asia’s largest mango market.

Principal Dr Anasuya Rai presided over the function. The program started with a prayer by Vaishnavi, welcome by Deepthi and vote of thanks by Neethu. Puja and Saloni monitored the program.
