Catholic Priest arrested in Tamil Nadu for hate speech

Chennai, Jul 24 (IANS): A Roman Catholic priest George Ponnaiah who made disgusting speech in Kanniyakumari district about Bharat Mata, Hinduism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the DMK government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was arrested in Madurai on Saturday.

He had said at a meeting attended by Christians and Muslims, that the DMK government led by Stalin coming to power is nothing but alms of Christians and Muslims.

In the video of his controversial speech, he was seen and heard making disgusting and disparaging remarks about Modi and Shah.

The police have booked him for spreading enmity between religious groups.

Ponnaiah had addressed a meeting in Kanniyakumari district recently protesting against the ban on conducting prayers in houses and not allowing construction of churches on private 'patta' lands.

A number of police complaints were lodged against Ponnaiah for his hate speech.

The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP held protests in various districts demanding arrest of Ponnaiah under the Goondas Act and under National Security Act for promoting hatred among religious groups.

    There are many who made hatred speech in this country. let according to chronological order be arrested and not targeted even though there's no hatred. Before arrest they must publish definition according to law and if wrongful arrest the concerned official should be put into jail with out salary with three fold equal punishment

    what a joke...Karwar Hero, Kalladka Hero, Ugly face Rural development minister, SriRamasene chief ..and all the rightwing groups do the hate speech daily..They dont get sleep without the usual hate speech against 2 minority communities in India...

    When someone from minority does it, its termed as hate speech, act of terrorism and anti-national. But when the other side does it, its nationality and true indian. Just hipocracy in this country.

    In any case this priest may not have lied. So, he is arrested for speaking the truth which could be proved in court of law.p Hum Kare Tho Satyachar Thum Kare Tho Hatyachar..

    Have you heard his original version of speech not the twisted version which is circulated in social media??????…….Why different laws with ready clean chit for BJP leaders who on everyday basis give hate speeches to minorities and minorities are served with full extent of law.
