AIADMK MPs Want CBI to Probe Threats to Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Sep 20 (IANS) The AIADMK parliamentarians have urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death threats received by their party leader J.Jayalalithaa.

In their Sep 19 letter to the prime minister released to the media here Monday, the MPs cited their meeting with him Sep 7 and their representation for a free and fair investigation of the threats.

"As far as the investigation on the threat letters, it seems that the state government is only interested in releasing advertisement in newspapers about the details pertaining to the security arrangements provided to honourable Amma (Jayalalithaa) at the cost of the government and not interested in investigating the sources of these threat letters and as to who have been sending them and the background to all these? There seems to have been no investigation concerning all the above matters," the letter says.

The AIADMK MPs have also sent a copy of the letter to union Home Minister P.Chidambaram.
