Bengaluru, Aug 8: Former Chief Minister and Karnataka’s towering personality in the country’s politics, Siddavvanahalli Nijalingappa’s admission and unblemished leadership were models for the present generation of political leaders, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday.
Paying homage to Nijalingappa’s statue in front of Vidhana Soudha, the Chief Minister lauded the veteran leader’s contribution in the unification of Karnataka and the initiatives he had taken for implementing Cauvery, Krishna and other major irrigation projects in the State.
Pointing out that he was privileged to represent the assembly constituency of Shiggaon in the present Haveri district, which was represented by Nijalingappa, the Chief Minister said the veteran leader of the undivided Congress party was a national leader and served as a bridge between the South and North in the country’s political landscape.
Health and Family Welfare as well as Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar accompanied the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister later participated in the lunch hosted by Biocon Chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, in which Wipro Chief Azim Premji, Kris Gopalakrishnan, T V Mohandas Pai and others were also present.
