Hubli: KIMS MD Quits over Drunken Dancing Doctors

Hubli, Sep 21 (PTI):
Managing Director of Karnatak Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Dr M G Hiremath on Tuesday tendered his resignation on ''moral grounds'' over celebration of golden jubilee of the institute when the state was in mourning following the death of renowned vocalist Puttaraj Gawai.

Addressing a press conference, Hiremath said he had submitted his resignation letter to Medical Education Secretary I M Vittalamurthy to be forwarded to Home Minister V S Acharya.

In the letter, he had stated that he was "not connected with the drinking and dancing that students of KIMS indulged in on September 19."

Hiramath clarified that all official functions in the institute were cancelled that day and this incident occurred in his absence when he left for another function organised by KIMS alumni student doctors, after inagurating the jubilee celebration.

"As such I am not reponsbible for the ugly condemnable incident", he said.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Dharwad district-in-charge Jagadish Shettar has urged Acharya to order an inquiry into the incident.

I totally agree with Mr William. What has the medical fraternity to do with the death of a vocalist. Should we then close the hospital and its emergency services too? Whenever there is a day of mourning we see people thronging to multiplexes. The only people who truly mourn are the family members and true friends of the deceased. For the rest its just a holiday. As the saying goes "Laugh, and the whole world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone". Lets be realistic here.

It is a fact that Doctors are working day and night attending the sick and patients. Hardly they get together for a fellowship. What is wrong in merry making on a dedicated day. Issue is blown out of proportion for nothing sake. We are really inhuman for the people who are really humanatarian.
