Mangaluru: Huge pits on Kulur service road - Department in slumber

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 9: The service road at Kulur has become a nightmare for the vehicle drivers as potholes have dotted the road. This road turns wretched every rainy season, and the National Highways Authority which is expected to provide a lasting solution to the problem has closed its eyes to the plight of the people.

The road now represents a canal. Some of the pits are so deep that the standing water measures about two feet.  Two-wheeler riders getting hurt after their vehicles plunge into the pits has become a common sight here. When the cars move, their bottoms repeatedly come in contact with the road.

During the summer months, these pits are filled with mud.  During these months, whenever vehicles moved on them, clouds of dust created problems for others. Now the mud has been washed away and the pits are full of water. Accidents happen as the vehicle riders cannot gauge that there are deep holes. Thousands of vehicles like trucks and tankers make use of this road. The service road at Pumpwell also is not different. Under pressure from the people, the city corporation is planning to repair the road.

If someone approaches the road at high speed, he is sure to meet with an accident. The people's representatives have not done their duty here and pedestrians cannot walk on this narrow road. People are angry that even asphalting is not done here.  They want this road to be repaired like the Kottara Chowki service road. People's representatives have not been listening to their grievances, people say.

The National Highway Authority has huge potholes from right from Kulur bridge till Surathkal. As vehicles move slowly and in a curvy path, traffic jams happen. This road for which toll is collected, is not repaired promptly. The road is motorable only about four to five months every year.

A social worker said that the drains are not being cleared and therefore rainwater flows on the road, because of which the road gets damaged. Project director of national highways authority of India, Shishu Mohan, said that repair will be undertaken as soon as the rains retreat.

Government has money/budget/time to erect statues, to build Goove Shala's, to change names of cities, to change names of projects etc etc..., But they don't have money and time to repair the roads in India. Even people are blind at present. we have to blame the voters not the government. The government is worried about the cows more than human being in this country. let us start Bullock carts again on the roads.
