Chennai, Sep 21: The first literary and cultural convention was organized by the Tamil Nadu unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat concluded under the chairmanship of renowned Tamil poet Padmashree Dr Vairamuttu on Sunday September 19.
Dr Vairamuttu, in his valedictory address, said that seven Kannadigas are among Jnanapeeta awardees, while there are only two such Tamil litterateurs.
Dr Srikrishna Bhat Artikaje, chairman of the convention, acknowledged the honour accorded to him by the organizers.
Former Tamil Nadu minister Dr H V Hande commended the contributions of Kannadigas in the metro.
Meanwhile, Kannadiga achievers were felicitated for their extraordinary contributions in their respective fields - T K Govind Rao (music), K Murali Rao (hotel industry), Padma Srinivas (literary translations), R N K Prasad (movies), R Gopal Reddy and M A Neelakantan (education), Raj Gopal (administration) and Ganesh Naik (social service).
K P Acharya, president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Tamil Nadu unit, delivered the introductory address. Secretary Tamil Selvi welcomed the gathering. Karnataka Sangh secretary B Shashikala Rao proposed the vote of thanks. Sudha Prasad and Dr V Sheshadri compered the programme.
