Bantwal, Aug 11: Rural police arrested six people on Tuesday August 10, in connection with the theft of diesel from the pipeline of a fuel supply company that passes through the land belonging to Ivan Pinto, resident of Arba of Arala village near Sornadu in the taluk.
The cops have confiscated cans filled with diesel worth lac of rupees. The operation was conducted by a team led by inspector T D Nagaraj and sub inspector Prasanna M. The arrested people include main accused Ivan Pinto, owner of the land also. Welders who rigged a hole in the pipeline, Ajith, a resident of Pachanady in Bondel and Joel Preetham of Kannur were arrested. Police sources said that many people who are involved in this business are absconding.

On the night of July 30, when a 15-feet deep pit was dug through the help of an excavator it was found that the pipe was drilled illegally and a gate valve and steel coated pipe was attached to it to steal the diesel from the pipeline. As much as Rs 40 lac worth petroleum products were reportedly stolen.
