Mangaluru: More children infected during second wave in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Aug 11: More children have tested positive during the second wave of Covid than the first one. In the district of Dakshina Kannada 11,000 children have tested positive and recovered. During the first wave, 5,400 children tested positive, while the figure for the second wave is an astonishing 11,710. According to the statistics of the second wave of Covid from March 2021 no deaths are reported in the age group of 5 to 20 years. According to the information given by the health department, all have recovered fast.

In the second wave from March to the first week of August 2021, 1,751 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years have tested positive. Out of them 829 are girls and 922 are boys. In the age group of 5 to 10, 2,307 tested positive, out of which 1,135 are girls and 1,252 are boys. In the age group of 11 to 15 years 2,873 people tested positive. Out of this 1,376 are girls while 1,497 are boys. In the age group of 15 to 20 years 4,779 people tested positive out of which 2,301 are girls and 2,478 are boys. In active cases in the age group of 0 to 5, 58, in the age group of 6 to 10, 105, in the age group of 11 to 15, 151 and 287 in the age group of 16 to 20 years.

The positive numbers are more in children of Mangaluru urban area. The figures for the months of March, April, May, June and July are 67, 436, 864, 397 and 540 respectively.

According to district health officer Dr Kishore Kumar in the second wave more children have tested positive. These infections are mainly transferred to children from their family members or when they attend festivals and fairs.

Ayurvedic doctor Dr Sathish Shankar says that use of Amritharishta, Balachaturbhadra Syrup and Pipalasyavana medicines can improve the immunity in children against Covid.
