Doha : Dr Edward Nazareth Delivers a Talk on Health Awareness

Doha, Sep 23: Mangalore Cricket Club, (MCC), Qatar, organized a public lecture on health awareness recently at the Indian Cultural Center’s Delhi Hall. Dr Edward Nazareth, who was in Doha, Qatar, as part of MCC’s nativity celebrations spoke on maintaining good health during the middle age years.
Dr Edward Nazareth, MD (Orthopedic) is a renowned orthopedic Surgeon, a Professor at Fr. Muller’s Medical College, Mangalore and a Konkani activist. He is the author of several Konkani novels (“Kantyanim Bhandleem Vodh” and “Nirmonem”), short stories (“Bhumi vaikumtnat”, “Advarllem phal”) and Konkani health related books (including “Bhori Bholaiki”, “Modhyam Praayar Bholayke Zothon” among others).
He has been awarded the Sandesha Award in 2009, Konkani Kutam Award and Rachna Professional Award in 2007. His novel “Bhumi vaikumtant” has won two awards, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Award and the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. Dr Edward Nazareth in spite of all his achievements is a very humble and down to earth person but with a mission.
A columnist in the Daijiworld portal, he does his best in creating health awareness in all by all means at his disposal, and thus shares his professional knowledge with all for free.
Richard Dsouza, President of MCC, welcomed the audience and introduced them to the speaker, Dr Edward Nazareth. The talk was targeted to the middle aged group (45 to 65 years) and was titled “Care of Health for the Middle Aged”. In addition to briefing the audience about the prevalent diseases afflicting people in today’s world and lifestyle, Dr Edward in his unique and humorous style, emphasized the need to undergo regular medical checkups. He also explained the benefits of exercise, especially for people over 40 years. He recommended a daily walk of at least 30 minutes and termed walking as the ‘king of all exercises’. The talk was followed by a Question and Answer session.
It was very evident by the participation and interest shown by the 75 odd audience members who had gathered to listen to the talk that the topic appeared to be the need of the hour. And listening to Dr Edward’s talk was a reminder for us to slow down our pace of life and take a look at our lifestyle.
