Bangalore, Sep 23: An advocate named Mohan has filed public interest litigation in the state High Court (HC), seeking directions to the authorities concerned to strictly abide by the provisions of Aircraft Act and other rules while renewing the licences of the airports. The petitioner also has sought the intervention of the High Court to restrain Airports Authority of India (AAI) from operating the Mangalore International Airport at Bajpe till its licence is renewed. He has alleged that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has committed dereliction of duty in not repeatedly checking the safety aspects of Mangalore and other airports and not taking steps to renew their licences, even after the licences of several airports expired long back.

The HC, on Wednesday September 22, instructed the additional solicitor general of India, Kalyan Basavaraj, to clarify where the matter relating to the renewal of the licence of Bajpe airport stands as of now. The division bench comprising Justice D V Shylendra Kumar and Justice H S Kempanna questioned as to how is the airport being operated without licence, besides wanting to know the reasons for the negligent attitude of AAI in getting the licences renewed, and questioned as to what would happen if some tragedy occurs at the airport in the meantime. It said they will have no other option but to order the closure of the airport in question, if its licence is not renewed.

The petitioner argued that the licence of Mangalore airport had expired a few weeks after 158 passengers lost their lives in an air crash there. He claimed that the passengers do not get any compensation if an aircraft crashes at an airport having no valid licence, and blamed DGCA for not having genuine concern about the safety of the air passengers.

The bench, after expressing deep anguish at the attitude of Directorate General of Civil Aviation, adjourned the hearing in the case, after issuing instructions as above.

    Thanks to Advocate Mohan.This new airport bldg.should be closed permanently.Let them sell this bldg.& pay the money to those victims family.They can convert to Temple or Mosque or Church Or all in one, so that they can earn more free money without begging. Instead of planning for a bigger runway where safety is required for the passengers,they went for the construction of new bldg.and made enough money.Why to pay ONE rupee also?Look atCM Yediyurappa, his sanction for donation is always in crores. Airport is build by public money, not from the aviation ministers pocket.Who is he to order for new fee.Old is gold.

    No need of a/c for few hours stay.Where are the winner & opp.Mangalore Politicians now?Are they act like sleeping now & collect their share behind the screen?Why can't they fight with this chor airport authorities. Only they think NRI for vote?It will be NIL from NRI,  if they don't totally cancel the fee of domestic & international passengers.Their new fee is 4/5 days salary of a labour working in gulf.Only bigger runway can give safety for all the passengers and not the new a/c bldg.Hoping for full support to Daijiworld from all the readers to take necessary action against the airprot authorities.

    This is india,who cares. we ignore to develop what is good for the future of our new born citizens. What good we do today and what every new good step we take today, that makes our new born citizen well behaved, well civilized and well cultured. That makes our economy strong. our hard work and effort makes our country prosper. if we neglect today we neglect our whole country and its future. We do not care for public safety, we do not need human dignity. we say our population is big. We have 60 percent of our population youth, young and strong. No other country has this youth population not even china. China has only 40 percent youth of their population. So let us fight for it and use our youth strength, education and make it a better place to live.

    If Central Govt. is not able to run airports give it to private people. Today Indian railways is in profit. Why not Air India.

    Well done Mr. Mohan. Atleast let High court to take measures to safeguard to innocent passangers. Aiport authority only engaged in squeezing money from the passangers without fullfilling its resposnibilty.

    Please dont Stop any flights, try to sort out the matter, and mean while permit them a temporary Licence. if there is any this kind of law.
