Mangalore Sep 25: Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Bangalore and Sahamatha Film Society here organized a two-day film appreciation workshop was inaugurated at CODP office hall, Nantoor on Saturday September 25.

Inaugurating the programme, Mangalore University, Chair in Christianity chairman Fr John Fernandes inaugurated the programme said that the movie helps express our thoughts and send across message to the society. He urged people to try and create artistic movies.

Parameshwara Guruswamy of Bangalore was the resource person of the programme. Guruswamy said that Mangalore is a place which makes him feel happy when it comes to movies as he has made short film in Konkani. Also the people are interested in the field of film-making, he noted.

He said that India is the highest producer of India and also incidentally has the highest movie watching community in the world. In this context, it is very wrong to interpret that India is still a beginner in movie-making when infact we have one of the best movie-makers in the world.

Sahamatha Film Society, Mangalore secretary Ivan D’Silva said that five film clubs will be set up in Karnataka Government Polytechnic, Vijaya College, Mulki, Besant Women’s College, Government First Grade College, Vittal and Gokarnanatheshwara College in the current year.

The film clubs called "Belli Saakshi” have already been formed in many colleges around the city with the help and guidance of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. They have been operating in Govinda Dasa College, Suratkal, Alva's Degree College, Moodbidri, Government Junior College, Bokkapatna, Mahesh
Pre-university College and Government Women First Grade College, Balmatta for the past one year, he added.
