Udupi, Aug 18: Rotary MAHE Skin Bank will be inaugurated on August 21, 2021 at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal. The project to establish skin bank is being realized with the help of a Rotary Global grant by the Rotary Club of Manipal town.
Skin bank will be inaugurated by Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG). Dr HS Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE Manipal, will preside over the program. Lt gen Dr MD Venkatesh, vice-chancellor, MAHE Manipal and district governor of RID 3182 Rtn MG Ramachandra Murthy will be the chief guests of the program.
Dr Sharath K Rao, Dean-KMC, Rtn Dinesh Nayak and Rtn Dr Vasanth Prabhu, international sponsors of Rotary Skin Bank, Rtn Dr P Narayana, DRF chairman, Rtn Dr Sunil M Keswani, director of National Burn Centre, Mumbai, and CG Muthana, chief operating officer of Kasturba Hospital Manipal will be the Guest of honor, said Narayana Sabhahit- registrar MAHE, Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty-medical superintendent and Rtn Ganesh Nayak-president of the Rotary Club of Manipal town.
'Rotary MAHE Skin Bank' is a joint project of MAHE Manipal and Rotary Club of Manipal Town. Kasturba hospital treats patients with burns from not only Udupi district but also other neighbouring districts. With this centre, the community will benefit greatly.
In India, an average of seven million people suffers from burns every year. When a person's skin is damaged by more than 30-40 percent, it can be fatal unless it is replaced by healthy skin, said Dr NC Sreekumar, head of plastic surgery and burn centre.
