Mangalore Sep 26: Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO), Abu Dhabi in co-ordination with Samanvaya organized scholarship distribution programme for students here at Milagres Senate hall on Sunday September 26.
Inaugurating the programme, KCO founder president Leo Rodrigues said that the students who are present here are a role model for the other youth. KCO is a private organization which is working without any financial support of the government.
He also said that KCO is distributing scholarships with the aim of making students successful, and wished the students to achieve their goals and reach great heights. KCO has become a successful organisation today thanks to the collective efforts of its members all these years, he added.
Presiding over the programme, KCO president Gerald D'Mello called on students to be committed in life to achieve success. Study hard to excel and then give the society what you have received. It is the hard earned money of non-resident Indians in Abu Dhabi and don't merely treat it as cash, he stressed.
Speaking on the occasion, Dakshina Kannada district Congress vice-president Ivan D’Souza said that the organization is doing a great work by giving scholarship to people of all the religion. Though you all need to take politicians as role models, you all can correct politicians as they are the people who enforce laws. And they need to be corrected by the citizens to give their best as politicians.
Addressing students, Milagres Church Centenary Celebrations vice-president said that vision and determination will take one to great heights and the organization instead of providing fish, is teaching you fishing so that you can fend for yourselves.
Scholaraship of Rs 9.5 lacs was disbursed among 136 students.
Fr Ronald Cutinho of Samanvaya welcomed the gathering, while managing trustee of Samanvaya Fr Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto introduced the guests. KCO past president Robert Rego proposed the vote of thanks.
